Bethlehem is where King David was born.  It is also where Jesus Christ was born.  The prophet Micah gave this prophecy:

 

“As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah –

from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf,

one whose origins are in the distant past.” (Micah 5:2)

Are you made of dust or bone? I think it’s worth noticing that when God created the world, He created Adam from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7).  In fact, all plants, shrubs and trees grew up out of the dust of the ground and all the animals, birds and all that lived on the land were created from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:19).

The impact of a mission trip on a teen or pre-teen is beyond what words can describe.  My son wrote the following account of one of his experiences on a mission trip.  This essay was for his college applications. Colleges, by the way,  love to hear about High Schools students serving the least of these through organizations such as Touch The World.

Love and trust are both extremely important in the parent/child relationship, but they’re often confused or misunderstood.  To many parents these terms are interchangeable, but in actuality they are NOT.  In fact, understanding the difference between these to verbs is so essential to successful parenting and adolescent maturation.

Kris and I have often explained these terms to our children and then lived them out with them.  So well do my children know the difference that I often hear them explaining it to their friends when they are struggling with their own parents.

Ok, so we talked about the symptoms of anxiety and what it does to us.  But how do we deal with it once we have it?  How do we help our children deal with it once they experience these awful symptoms of anxiousness?  I have been dealing with parents and children for nearly 25 years now.  I can only offer what I know and have experienced myself.  With that in mind I would offer the following:

The first thing to remember about anxiety is that it is so nebulous.  We can’t identify the source most of the time.  So we have to begin by thinking more widely than our own situation.  We need to take a step back and ask some basic questions about what we believe about the world in general and our own world in particular.  Here’s what I mean.
